ABOUT League Two Qualification

League Article

Scottish League Two is the fourth tier of football in Scotland and it’s the lowest professional competition in the country.

The competition is currently made-up of ten clubs with the eventual champions enjoying automatic promotion to the Scottish League One.

Clubs who finish in second, third and fourth enter a play-off at the end of the season to determine who will play in a two-legged tie against the team second-bottom from League One.

First, the third placed side takes on the fourth placed side, with the winner taking on the second placed club in the play-off final.

If the League Two play-off winner manages to beat League One’s second-bottom side, then it also enjoys promotion to the third tier.

Since the 2014/15 season the club which finishes last in League Two faces a two-legged play-off against the winner of an earlier play-off tie between the winner of the Highland League and the Lowland League. The winner takes their place in League Two while the loser faces relegation.
