ABOUT Challenge Cup
The Scottish Challenge Cup is a knockout competition consisting of 58 clubs.
Since the 2016/17 season, the competition consists of clubs from the Championship, League One, League Two, U20 sides from the clubs in the Premiership, four teams from the Highland and Lowland leagues, and eight final entrants from outside of the realms of Scottish football.
All ties in this cup take place over one leg. Extra-time and penalties are used should a game end as a draw after 90 minutes.
During the draw, the first team that’s puled out is the home team however, it must be noted that this doesn’t apply for the final which is played at a neutral venue.
This competition is a recent addition to Scottish football having been founded during the 1990/91 season. This was done to commemorate the centenary of the Scottish Football League which was formed in 1890.
