ABOUT Eredivisie
The Eredivisie is the top tier football competition in the Netherlands.
The league currently consists of 18 clubs who battle for the title over the course of 34 rounds. At the end of the campaign, the bottom two clubs are automatic relegated to the Eerste Divisie and replaced by the top two teams in the second division.
The team who finishes third-bottom goes into a relegation play-off with six clubs from the Eerste Divisie. The winner of these play-offs secures their place in the top tier.
The top two sides in the competition enjoy Champions League football while the third placed side has to settle for Europa League football.
There is also a separate play-off to determine the second Europa League spot. This is normally contested by the teams who finish 4th to 7th in the Eredivisie.
