Ligue 1 is the top tier football competition in France, currently home to 20 clubs.

The competition is one of the highest ranked in Europe and plays host to legendary clubs such as Olympique Lyon, Olympique de Marseille, AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.

Each club plays a total of 38 league games across the season. Since 2016/17, two bottom teams have suffered automatic relegation to Ligue 2 while the third-bottom team had to endure a relegation play-off with the third-best second division side.

What’s more, the top three teams in Ligue 1 qualify for the Champions League while the fourth and fifth best sides go into the Europa League.
