The Championship is often considered as one of the toughest football competitions in the sport. It is the proving ground of clubs who yearn to play in the Premier League and players who wish to one day compete in England’s premier footballing product.

In the English football pyramid, the Championship is a second-tier competition falling under the Premier League and above League One.

There are 24 teams with the top two enjoying automatic promotion to the Premier League and the four next best teams competing in a play-off to determine the third promotion spot. Also, the bottom three teams each year face relegation to League One.
